1867, October 18: Rain of Fire at Thames Ditton

The December 1867 edition of Symon's Monthly Meterological Magazine of London, England, reported that on the night of October 18, 1867 -- a Friday -- people were startled to see what looked like a "shower of fire" falling from the sky over the town of Thames Ditton, in the county of Surrey.

The strange shower lasted about ten minutes, and brightly lit the town for the time. In the morning, "waterbutts and puddles in the upper part of the village were thickly covered with a deposit of sulphur." Sample of the water were said to have been saved... but no explanation for the whole event has ever come forward.
