The Man-Eating Tree of Madagascar

Area(s) reported: Africa:Madagascar
Date(s) reported: 1878

"The Man-Eating Tree of Madagascar was reported in the 1880's by an explorer who was visiting some natives that fed the plant a human sacrifice… or, at least, it was claimed to have been reported. Unfortunately for everyone who wants to actually see this plant, the report was fake (as was both the author of the report and the tribe of natives he was supposedly visiting)."
